Ana Svetel

After completing II. gimnazija Maribor and The Conservatory for Music and Ballet, Ana Svetel (Maribor, 1990) graduated from Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology at the Faculty of Arts in Ljubljana. There, she works on her doctoral dissertation on sociocultural aspects of lightness, dark and weather in Iceland and is a teaching assistant at the Department of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology. Her poetry book Lepo in prav (LUD Literatura 2015) was shortlisted for the debut of the year award. In 2019, she published a collection of short stories Dobra družba, which was nominated for Novo mesto Award and warmly received among critics and readers. Both of her books were soon sold out and reprinted. Nine of the stories from Dobra družba were adapted into a series of radio plays, which had its premiere broadcast on the national radio in 2020. In the same year, she was the Reading Balkans resident author in Split. Ana Svetel contributes poems and prose for the main Slovene literary journals (Literatura, Dialogi, Sodobnost) as well as columns and essays for various cultural media (Outsider, Razpotja, Airbeletrina). Her works have been translated into English, Portuguese, Croatian and Bosnian and included in two anthologies. As a poet, she is a member of the Versopolis network. Her third book is coming out in 2022. She is also active in the fields of music and storytelling.
