Slovene book days
The 22nd edition of Slovene Book Days will take place beween 19th and 23th of April 2017!
Slovene Book Days is an all-Slovene festival that takes place in Ljubljana and partner cities each spring. Although the core focus of the one-week festival is Slovene literature, various other artistic genres are included in the events, offering visitors an in-depth and varied perspective into literature. In certain cities, the festival takes place within the context of lively book fairs. Among the traditional goals of the festival is raising awareness about the reading culture, facilitating direct contact between the reading public and authors from different generations, and publicizing the achievements of Slovene literature. In recent years, the festival has focused on a variety of current themes and has expanded possibilities for people working in the field of culture. It is also useful for drawing attention to problems that are present, though sometimes repressed, in modern society, such as the faster tempo of life, which in turn raises the question of how to attract people to books and present quality content in a contemporary and attractive way.
The Slovene Book Days festival strives to give meaning to the marginalized art of the printed word. The writing of Slovene and international authors at the festival reflects on intimate experiences and narrates stories about inclusion or exclusion from the European and wider milieu. These authors do not hide anything: not wounds, nor laughter, nor resistance. The authors transgress borders and express their cosmopolitan perspectives, which are not always in agreement with common views. The events that pulse through the various styles and genres bring together publishers, intellectuals, the professional public, and everyone who is touched by literature. The festival builds a lasting bridge between readers and the public in the widest sense of the word. It offers a space for young and old, transcends stereotypes, and creates a place for the expression of different opinions. contemporary literary figures are in focus, we realize each year anew that it is essential to have both a perspective on the past and sensitivity to the future and everything that often goes unnoticed.
