Bilateral Literary Exchanges

The Slovene Writers’ Association, as part of its international activities, maintains contacts with writers’ associations, literary centres, and cultural institutions in the EU and worldwide. With many countries and writers’ associations, the SWA has also signed international cooperation protocols.

Each year, the SWA organizes international writers’ exchanges, presentations of contemporary foreign authors in Slovenia, and presentations of Slovene authors at major literary events, conferences, and festivals abroad. The SWA also hosts leading Slovene authors with the aim of promoting outstanding Slovene literature internationally – an activity supported by regular partners and the Slovenian Book Agency.

The Slovene Writers’ Association maintains active and dynamic connections with major literary festivals around the world, which are attended by association members and other Slovene writers. For members of the association who are personally invited to various residencies, readings, festivals, and meetings abroad, the SWA partially covers travel expenses from its annual earmarked funds.

In recent years, the SWA has also acquired several significant European projects, further strengthening ties with international partners and enhancing the association’s international cooperation.

The Slovene Writers’ Association has long maintained fruitful relations with translators and mediators of Slovene literature abroad and also cooperates closely with the Slovene Association of Literary Translators (DSKP) and the Slovene PEN Centre.

Each member of the Slovene Writers’ Association is entitled to reimbursement of expenses for a writers’ residency abroad in the current calendar year, as long as funds are available.
